What is Pain Management?

We at the Pain Clinic of Monterey Bay strive to help patients understand the nature of their pain and identify treatment plans that help them best manage their pain. The process of treating chronic pain begins with working out what treatment options work best given the situation. This is highly individual and tailored to the patient’s needs. In some cases, treatments can be as simple as physical therapy and psychological treatment to help with forming helpful habits. In other cases, treatment for chronic pain can include medication management and/or focused injections.

In more severe conditions such as cancer pain or nerve injury pain, more advanced treatments for pain may be required, including nerve stimulation and targeted drug delivery with pain pumps. These types of therapies are called neuromodulation and involve using advanced technology to target the pain signals in the nerves, spinal cord, or brain to minimize the impact chronic pain has.
